Craniofacial Surgery
Craniofacial surgery in its purest form is surgery of the facial skeleton and skull. It corrects congenital and acquired malformations of the skull, eye sockets, nose and upper and lower jaws. Craniofacial techniques have made complex injuries and tumor resections of the jaws, orbits and skull base amenable to reconstruction. The correction of cleft lip and palate plays a prominent role in craniofacial surgery at our institution. We provide the expertise to perform all major craniofacial osteotomies such as LeFort I – III, monobloc, orbital, facial bipartition and sagittal split osteotomies as well as complex facial fracture repairs and reconstructions after trauma or tumor resections and employ pioneering techniques for craniofacial distraction osteogenesis. Trinidad Institute of Plastic Surgery has the only plastic surgeon in the Caribbean on staff, who graduated from an accredited craniofacial surgery training program in the United States.

Our portfolio comprises arthroplasties, arthroscopy, arthrodeses and fracture fixations of the hand, wrist and distal radius, tendon repairs and reconstructions, management of nerve compressions (like carpal tunnel syndrome or cubital tunnel syndrome), microsurgical nerve repairs, grafting and reconstruction and application of microvascular techniques to replant amputated parts from fingers to entire hands and arms, operative treatment of infections of the hand as well as rehabilitation Dupuytren’s and other contractures.
Complex Reconstructive Surgery
The reconstructions of complex defects, wounds and deformities falls into the realm of tissue transfer. We offer many scientifically proven options including microsurgical tissue transplantation for breast reconstruction and head and neck reconstruction, limb salvage after open fractures or ampuations and the coverage of chronic wounds.
The reconstruction of peripheral nerve injuries including those of the brachial plexus using techniques ranging from nerve grafting and berve transfers (neurotizations) to regional and free functional muscle transfers plays an important role in our reconstructive armamentarium.
Burn Surgery
We provide services for all phases of burn care from acute, early excision and grafting of minor and major burn injuries to late reconstructions of severe burn scarring and deformities in pediatric and adult age groups. Subspecialty trained surgeons in hand and craniofacial surgery draw from their expertise in the reconstruction in these cosmetically and functionally important areas to provide optimal rehabilitation.
