Referring to the plastic surgery information on this website answers the majority of the frequently asked questions at our Caribbean plastic surgery clinic at Trinidad Institute of Plastic Surgery.
- I am looking for plastic surgery information about XYZ ? First, refer to XYZ on our Caribbean plastic surgery website. Second, arrange for a consultation at our office with a board certified plastic surgeon – the only valid source for plastic surgery information
- How much does XYZ cost / I need to know if I can afford XYZ / I just want to know what XYZ costs / What does plastic surgery cost ? Please refer to the cosmetic surgery price list for minimum starting prices of selected procedures; otherwise, a personal consultation is needed, see here. Aside from those two, neither our administrative staff nor surgeons or anesthesiologists can or will provide any cost estimates without a consultation with one of our surgeons (see 3.) and 11.) below).
- Who are the surgeons? See here.
- What is a board certified plastic surgeon ? Completed training in plastic surgery (not dentistry or general surgery or some other specialty) in a recognized training program, passed the mandatory exam by a respected recognized specialty board (Europe, USA, Canada) and holds a board certificate / certificate of completion of specialty training in plastic surgery (it is not sufficient to be fellow of the XYZ college of ABC, member of the society / association of such and such etc.).
- Who does plastic, aesthetic and cosmetic surgery procedures / Do you do XYZ ? Only board certified plastic surgeons do perform plastic, cosmetic and aesthetic surgery procedures. All the others including surgeons , who are not board certified plastic surgeons, commit malpractice if attempting any such procedures (by engaging in acts outside their scope of practice as defined by their specialty). When seeing anybody claiming to “do plastic surgery” / be a “plastic surgeon” have them show you their board certificate / certificate of completion of specialist training. If it says anything but “specialist in plastic surgery” run as fast and as far as you can … Our spectrum as board certified plastic surgeons with subspecialty fellowships in hand and craniofacial surgery comprises over three hundred different types of procedures and the one you desire is among those.
- Where do you perform your procedures ? At most of the private hospitals and surgery centers in Trinidad.
- Do you accept insurances ? We do not deal with insurances directly. All cosmetic procedures are excluded by all known insurance carriers. Reconstructive procedures (hand surgery, burn surgery, craniofacial surgery, peripheral nerve surgery, breast reconstruction) are often covered by your insurance plan. In such cases, we will provide the required documentation so you can file for reimbursement with your insurance carrier.
- Where are you located ? Clients are seen for consultation and postoperative appointments in our office in Port of Spain.
- How do I make an appointment ? Exclusively through the patient coordinator at our main office. Appointments cannot be made and will not be honored by any other ways and means. We strictly and without exception see patients by appointment only. We do not accept any walk-ins. A consultation fee applies to all appointments for new clients. The consultation fee must be prepaid. A date and time for your appointment is assigned only after the consultation fee is received, no exceptions. Payment of the consultation fee is via credit card over the phone, Paypal or electronic bank transfer. No cash payments, no debit / lynx cards, no in person payments, no walk in payments, no exceptions.
- How much is the consultation fee? A trivial amount compared to the cost of any procedure. It will be credited towards the surgeon’s fee should you proceed to eventually having a procedure done.
- Do you have payment plans? We recommend you arrange for funding with your financial institution directly if needed and you think it is wise to do so. We also advise you that with the exception of medically necessary reconstructive plastic surgery (e. g. breast reduction, breast reconstruction, hand surgery, cancer reconstruction etc.), we generally do not think this is a good idea, but it is up to you. Elective cosmetic surgery is a luxury good and thus not for everybody. If you do not have or cannot save a certain amount of “play money”, cosmetic and aesthetic surgery likely are not for you. A very sure way to tell by yourself is if the consultation fee is already over your budget, you do not have a job or independent income, or your bank considers you ineligible for a credit card. A potential solution may be to tone down your desires significantly and adapt them to the realistic amount of funding you may have (e. g. you may not be able to afford an extensive combination procedure such as a mommy makeover, but you may still get improvement by a medium sized liposuction, you may not have the funds for a facelift, but get improvement with fillers and chemical peeling, etc.). Consult with an open mind and realistic expectations with a board certified plastic surgeon.
- How can I talk to a surgeon to get more plastic surgery information about XYZ ? By making an appointment for personal consultation, skype or phone consultation with our patient coordinator at our main office. A consultation fee applies independent of modality.
